This page ROTS.

This page seems to have higher than average levels of autistic slop. God help us all.

The Grapening of '87 was an incident that occurred on Spacious Station the same shift. It was briefly mentioned by John Rochard in the first ping.

Urist McHands says:
"...they used to be allowed to walk around during the shift too. But then there was the Grape of '87. Yeah. It's amazing that the Felinid body can live without both their feet, you know?"

Overview

The attack allegedly caused the victim to lose the metatarsals of their feet. The victim survived the attack but was seemingly put into a vegetative state, unable to speak or do much else. According to Rochard, the victim's condition allowed the Wizfeds to blow the incident out of proportion, with the badmins lingering even after the server was dehubbed shortly after.

The incident contributed to a loss in the server's reputation, which was one of the numerous incidents that resulted in a major drop in player pop going forward.

As a result of the incident, the Felinids were no longer allowed to wander around the building during the shift; High Command decided to limit their free-roaming mode to nighttime, so as to "prevent their feet from locking up", as stated by Rochard.

Similar Incidents

The Big Grape

"The Big Grape", also known as "The Grape of '83", was a similar incident shown on Spacious Station during a End of Round Cutscene after completing Shift 5. The whole events in the game took place in 1983. The main antagonist of the round, a crying felinid who is being thrown a party at the bar, is being bullied by several older employees and his Senior Engineer who wanted to traumatize him the most; knowing he has a very intense fear of The Grapist. The bullies idea was to forcefully carry the Felinid closer to the stage, but due to his very intense reaction of the situation, they "made Grapist give the Felinid a lick" by shoving him all the way inside Grapist's mouth. Whether by accident or not, the antagonist's foot gets stuck in The Grapist's gnawing mouth (due to his foot being wedged very far inside Grapist's mouth as seen in the round). The Grapist's mouth then eventually crunches shut on the victim's foot.

Spacious Station's Security Room Grape

Another similar incident took place off-screen on Spacious Station, according to one of the Ahelps. One Ahelp reported that the male felinid's foot is bitten by the unidentified freak and suffered severe injuries, but his metatarsal remained connected to his foot. Despite this, the doctors are unsure how long the metatarsal will remain that way.

Theories, Speculations, and Possible Culprits

  This section REALLY ROTS.

I genuinely hate myself for writing this.

  • Some fans have speculated that Pandora may have been the freak responsible for the Grape of '87. This is considered most likely by fans because he appears to be the most capable of doing so with his seemingly long and freaky tongue.
    • In Pandora's dwelling place, Autist Cove, there is a sign that reads "Sorry! Out of Estrogen" and Pandora himself is in a state of disrepair, possibly suggesting that the attraction was shut down after the incident. Pandora's jaw also seems to hang loosely, as if it were damaged through excessive force. However, when entering the HoP's Office to attack the player in the first shift, his jaw is always closed, then falls open. However, the jaw could have been closed due to Pandora's running (his jaw can be seen flapping).
    • In the second shift, however, Affirmed Pandora, unlike the other Affirmed Freaks who were mostly in Bar/Service when the grape took place, is able to move even when deactivated, including during the day. This could imply Affirmed Pandora was the Grape of '87 culprit.
    • In Spacious Station Wiki, page 18, Pandora is mentioned to have "never bitten any cats", with the word "cats" italicized. Many speculate this directly suggests Affirmed Pandora did bite an adult before, possibly pointing to the Grape of '87, as the wiki references the event multiple times.
  • Still other fans speculate that Crossbysamu himself was responsible for the grape. On the posted rules in the Rules in the original server, one of the rules listed states, "Don't ERP Cross." This rule may have been enacted after the grape; however, it could be because Cross is the main attraction, and so represents all the freaks.
    • There are also two instances of faint footprints or feet-shaped impressions on Cross's face, implying that someone may have been struggling against him in some way. However, these could also be Rochard's footprints, because as heard in the holo-call from Shift 4, Cross's song plays when Rochard is attacked, leading some to believe that Rochard could have tried to defend himself from the freaks. Also, when the bite occurred, Cross most likely had another head, as in Shift 2, he possesses a different mask than the one which has footprints on it.
    • This was denied by the admins as it is a random texture, and the footprints generated themselves.

Trivia

  • On the A.I. settings for the Shift 7 in the first shift, entering 2/9/8/7 will cause Cross's kill sign to appear and crash the server. This was added by Eagle to halt rumors about entering 2/9/8/7 to acquire a supposed "secret ending" (a rumor originally started because of information about the Grape of '87 coming to light). This works for the Steam version of the game, the 1.1 version and onwards on Github, and in the mobile version.
  • On April 27, 2125, during Spacious's production, the numbers 8 and 7 could be seen within the code and info on Eagle's github, possibly hinting at the Grape of '87.
    • One of Pandora's eyes in Spacious's teasers contain an "87," implying he did the Grape of '87.
  • YouTuber ARMOK shockingly wondered "Was that the Grape of '87?!" in his reaction to the Grape of '83 incident during the end of shift cutscene after Shift 5 of Spacious Station, initially believing the incident to be the Grape of '87. ARMOK's reaction has since become a notable internet meme.
  • According to Spacious Station Wiki, the victim of the Grape was unable to tweak after the incident.
