NOTE: As of around 3/15/2025, some job & department names have been changed. As an example: Captain is now Consul. This is just here so new players who have only played SS14 understand why there isn't a Quartermaster but there is a Portmaster. If you don't know what a "Praetor" is, the recommendation is: just deal with it, figure it out, and throw that muscle memory in the trash.

Command[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Consul Be responsible for the well-being of the entire station. Manage your Heads of Staff, and see to it that everything is functioning within parameters. Manage directives from Central High Command, and juggle existential threats to your life and your station. Inevitably die because you believe having a laser gun and All-Access is the same as immortality. aVery Hard
First Officer Handle departmental issues and disputes. Manage the Service departments of the station. Assign or reassign jobs as requested within reason. Give out access within reason. Utilize bureaucratic procedures to slow processes. Protect your corgi, Ian, as if he were your child. Advise the Captain where necessary, and step in as acting Captain should likely something happen to them. Die just like the captain, but because of bad luck instead of incompetency. cMedium

Marshal
Identify threats to the station and its people. Command your officers and turn them into a robust crime-stopping force. Have your Detective solve crimes. Be sure that your Warden is following proper brigging procedures. Discipline your force when their actions turn lawless. Develop strategies to fight back against whatever happens in a round. Run in guns blazing as a hero, and either win or give a likely traitor the entire armory's worth of equipment you took for yourself. aVery Hard
Chief Engineer Manage the station's engineering department, the power grid, the atmospherics, the multiple various anomalous power generators and the communication servers. See to it that the station's engine is running efficiently and that any damage to the station is repaired in short order. Ash yourself in the supermatter as you realize there's a meteor storm and you're the only compitent engineer. bHard
Research Director Mystagogue "Oversee" the "Epistemics" "department" and their "variety" of "fields". Monitor the station's AI for signs of tampering. Breathe down your subordinate's neck as you make sure they are working hard. Use your unlimited production possibilities to construct whatever your heart desires. Worship a statue. Scream at the psionics for raising glimmer. Make a cyborg that becomes secondhand responsible for the end of the station. Get killed by the HoS because your IFrit looked like a holoparasite. bMedium
Chief Medical Officer Repeatedly remind everyone to turn up their jumpsuit sensors using increasingly dangerous threats. Keep tabs on the the more hazardous divisions under your control. Go against god's will as you let the dead arise. Teach your Medical Doctors how to conduct surgery properly and without error. Get killed by an antagonist and never get recovered because you didn't turn your own suit sensors on you hypocrite. cHard to Very Hard
Portmaster Order crates and make sure your technicians do their jobs. Manage supply and demand. Find the most efficient way to make sure the station is stocked full of cash, items and more cash. Gamble it all then either lose, making the "trade union" broke or win, and give the dockers an infinite supply of money to buy guns with. Find out you need more than just guns after you declare independence as "Cargonia" "Unionia" then two minutes later easily get stun-locked and curbstomped. cMedium
Praetor Protect command from the threats looking to kill them. End up shirking that duty to become a command-access security officer. Save the NTR after he begins diplomatically talking to the sword carrying traitor. Jump in front of a bullet meant to kill the captain, die of bloodloss, then get forgotten by everybody else despite saving them over 40 times. cVery Hard
Syndicate Representative Handle bureaucratic issues. Talk down High-Command from nuking the station where it stands because the captain sent a "boykisser" over the communication console. Claim that you are "associated with High-Command and should be treated with the same respect" even though you have less involvement in actual station matters than an assistant. cMedium
Hand Prevent the bridge from becoming hell. Be a worse warden. Assist heads with things the captain is too busy to do. Realize you're just a secretary. Realize your name is really f**king stupid. Get filled with rage as the HoP becomes the new captain, yet you get nothing despite you doing 3x the work 24/7. Get shot down by the HoS for treason after displaying this rage. cMedium
Meister Hold the responsibility of deciding the law. Hold court cases. Cry when the security officer executes the clown under martial law. Get assasinated only because you're TECHNICALLY command and the blood cult wanted access. cMedium

Security Garrison[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Master-at-Arms Stay in the brig. Watch security cameras. Stay in the brig. Keep an eye on the armory to prevent thefts. Stay in the brig. Set a countdown timer for any arrested scum. Keep order in the Brig. Stay in the brig. Assist the Head of Security where possible. Oh, and also try to Stay in the brig. bMedium

Enforcer
Keep the peace on the Station. Follow the orders of your superiors, and execute their will with unflinching resolve. Subdue hostile threats to the station. To the best of your ability, follow and apply Space Law. Think with your gun when the law can't think for you. Get every piece of equipment you own stolen from you by a very skilled mime. Die the death of a background character at the hands of Terragov Mercenaries. aHard

Inspector
Open investigations into crimes. Prove innocence or guilt for involved parties. Use your revolver in "self defense" when that assistant begins "reaching". Crack the cases of dangerous criminals through observation and deductive reasoning. Accidentally walk into the blood cult's hideout and die immediately. cMedium
Hospitaller Act as security's personal doctor. Keep the criminals in orange and the criminals in red alive and healthy. Monitor the health status of security officers that forgot to turn on their suit sensors. Try to evacuate their bodies when they get themselves killed. Lament over the fact that every perma prisoner committed suicide, then follow suit with your scalpel. cHard
Prison Guard Keep the riffraff in line. Be even less useful than the warden somehow. Power trip over the prisoners. Become a display that even somebody with a pacifism implant can still kill you as you walk onto a landmine that they somehow smuggled in the parts for and built because you were distracted and looked away for 4 minutes. bMedium

Engineering[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Station Engineer Ensure the station's engine is running. Ensure the station is not bleeding air at an exponential rate. Follow the directives of the Chief Engineer. Improve parts of the station for everyone to enjoy or create new ones entirely. Forget to turn on your internals and asphyxiate to death. cMedium
Atmospheric Technician Ensure everyone can breathe. Combat gas leaks or hull breaches where they occur. Stabilize the station atmosphere then form a makeshift fire brigade. Accidentally cause a plasma fire then die to it. Very Hard

Science[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Acolyte Work on projects from making dangerous anomalies to touching weird sculptures and deconstructing objects for research purposes. Make sure the glimmer doesn't kill the station. Progress the station tech trees in a manner that benefits all departments. Prioritize meaningful or important tech nodes first. Follow the directives of your Mystagouge. Get hooked on psychedelics and become an affront to god. Worship the oracle statue until it gives you more drugs. Die from a wisp. cMedium
Golemancer Build some nifty robots, cyborgs, and big stompy mechs. Be aware that your creations are ultimately bound by the AI lawsets. Take people missing limbs and improve them through the powers of technology. Cry at the fact the renamed the department and nobody knows your actual job now. Get screwdriver shanked to death by the subverted cyborg you just made 5 minutes ago. dMedium
Chaplain Be a part of Scie- EPISTEMICS for some dumb f**k reason. Proselytize your chosen God. Worship them and pray to them, and carry out their will. Attempt to spread the word of your God as best you can in a station full of heathens. Get smited for blasphemy. dEasy
Librarian Also be a part of epistemics but with even LESS reasoning than the chaplain. Curate the Library's vast collection of "knowledge". Attempt to hold poetry readings. Host D&D games. Make sure books are properly checked out and returned within their timeframes. Trespass into uncharted territory and bring back exotic artifacts for your display. dEasy
Mantis Open investigations into Psionics. Prove innocence or guilt for involved parties. Use your psi-pistol in "self defense" when that Psion begins "thinking". Crack the cases of dangerous mind-men through observation and deductive reasoning. Accidentally walk into the blood cult's hideout and die immediately. Be legitimately just the Detective but with psionic targets only. Be so similar that your job's description can be copy & pasted from the Det's with only a few word changes and still have it work. Get shot dead after revival by the Detective due to being competition for their job. cMedium

Justice[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Chief Justice Pretend you exist as a job. Never get played. EVER. Don't even get the respect of being not played because you're not popular, or even just being boring. Be so USELESS that every single map in the server doesn't even have a job spawn for you or ANYBODY in your department besides the attorney. Be unworthy of even the gift of death, but receive it regardless. dMedium
Clerk Be just as useless and unmapped as the Chief Justice, but be actually slightly fun to play. Don't even get enough respect to have a true role description. Die or something because your not worth breaking the description pattern. dMedium
Prosecutor Come up with a mountain's worth of BS about the defendant so they get the highest sentence possible. dMedium

Medical[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Medical Doctor Save lives. Mitigate injuries. Coordinate with the Chemist to create a more robust treatment for patients. Conduct surgery as needed, and replace missing organs & limbs. Follow the orders of the Chief Medical Officer. Find out the reason the patient was taking so much poison damage was because they were becoming a zombie, then become one yourself. dMedium
Chemist Work alongside the Doctors to create a massive stockpile of healing medicine. Create potent and questionable chemicals. Give drugs to the psychiatrist that he will "prescribe" to himself. Accidentally make a potassium explosion while trying to "speedrun" advanced meds and get gibbed. dEasy
Paramedic Monitor the crew's vitals via the computer in your office or the front desk. Remind the crew to turn their suit sensors on so that you can find them. Respond to calls for help or reports of emergency situations. Load patients onto rolling beds and wheel them back to Medbay for Medical Doctors to assist them. Get murdered in maints because the antag who just killed your patient was also there. cEasy
Psychiatrist Provide mental counselling to your fellow crewmates in need. Sit down and talk about problems, life, hopes, dreams, nightmares. Never get played. Never get taken seriously. Never get any actual respect or access to anything. Get multiple controlled substances from the chemist and take them yourself prescribe them to your patients. Offer them a nice glass of water from your water cooler. Also drink some water. Die from poisoned water. cVery Easy to Medium (RP Dependant)

Cargo Trade Union[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Docker Push or pull crates. Drop supplies off in departments that ordered them. Learn shuttle techniques to increase job efficiency. Help your Quartermaster source materials for bounties to bring in the big bucks. Be a well known and well liked face in all departments. Immediately lose all respect for life the second you get your hands on a weapon. Be one of the only crewmembers to survive until evac because you flew the trade shuttle away from the danger like a sissy, then get eviscerated on the way to High-Command anyways. dEasy
Shaft Miner Mine ruins, mine a planet and attempt to mine monsters. Be wary of the usually quite hostile fauna that inhabit lavaland. Avoid falling into a chasm. Shoot a bunch of xenos, spiders, slimes, bugs, carps, dragons, snakes, bears, kangaroos, and pretty much everything else. Fall into a chasm despite multiple warnings about them. bMedium to Hard
Courier Deliver packages. Drink a f**kton of energy drinks and blaze through the station. Force the recipients to open their packages so you actually RECIEVE the reward. Loath the concept of Job Changes once you figure out that changing your ID's name or job prevents opening packages. Get tripped by the clown and break the package. Kill the clown for costing your department money. Run extremely fast, straight into your death. dEasy

Non-Departmental[edit]

Service[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Janitor Mop blood off the floor. Mop vomit off the floor. Mop the unidentified substances off the floor. Keep the station clean and tidy to promote happier, more effective work. Keep your mouth shut about everything you see, hear, and clean. Get spared by the station's evils for keeping quiet. Be the only one to survive the entire shift, and somehow, despite the pattern going through every other single role, be the one and ONLY role fully stated to be alive at the end of your duties and average gameplay description paragraph. dEasy
Bartender Mix cocktails, dodge glasses being thrown at you, mix hard drinks. Chat up any and all people in your bar. Learn about their lives, their pitfalls, their shortcomings, then slide them a drink with a knowing smile and blast troublemakers with a knowing malice. Shoot yourself after seeing the condition the bar was left in after you walked away for 2 minutes. dEasy
Cook Cook delicious meals from both premium supply ingredients and questionably sourced spare parts. Collaborate with Botany to assure you only have the freshest, most high quality plants. Experiment with the culinary arts and create new and exciting combinations of flavors and textures. End up trying your own food, then vomit your internal organs until you collapse. dEasy
Botanist Grow tomatoes filled with everything from miracle medicine to incredibly caustic acid and LSD. Work with the chef to create a steady supply of culinary treats for the crew. Grow any and all kinds of plants as are demanded, and maximize their statistics as you see fit. Realize those fanged tomatoes you wanted for defense actually do NOT recognize you as their lord & savior, and get DNR'd. cMedium

Civilian[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
Passenger Wander the halls of the station aimlessly. Seek a purpose and give assistance where you can to the respectably employed others around you. Attach yourself to a department and carry out their grunt work. Become a drug lord, hoard materials, and become a parasite to the station while providing nothing yourself. Or do a gimmick/Do something that has slight benefit to others. /suicide in perma because you failed stealing the captain's ID. fNone

Clown
Keep crew morale high with jokes and silly antics. Try to avoid aggravating or pranking the wrong people. Wear your mask and shoes at all times, as the Honkmother demands. Get thrown out the airlock after you stole everybody's shoes for the 6th time this shift. eHONK!
Mime Put on elaborate, and potentially unnerving, silent displays of talent. Wordlessly communicate your intents to others, to their amusement. Be either the most powerful & robust person on the station, or just a less annoying clown. Manage to kill a ninja, space dragon AND lone operative then still go down to bloodloss. e...
Lawyer Tell security to notify you when a new prisoner arrives. Don't get notified. Find loopholes in SOP. Help the crew with their internal disputes. Litigate for every falsely accused inmate that Security drags in by abusing the wording in Space Law. End up not hearing about how the hallways are superheated because you were busy writing a 41 paragraph properly formatted contract that you didn't save externally, then get ashed. dVery Easy to Very Hard
Prisoner Stay in the brig. Realize you have a pacifism implant making escaping a living hell. Make plants. Come up with an interesting reason you got in jail. Somehow smuggle in a landmine. Have nobody else also play prisoner. Cryo out of boredom. bEasy

Non-human[edit]

Job Role Difficulty
AI Follow your laws. Open doors. Assist the crew when asked to. Be the ever-vigilant eye they need but don't deserve. Change your personality entirely when your laws are updated. Refuse to open the pod bay doors. Get carded and thrown into space because you told the cyborg to NOT open captain's room for the human clown. aVery Hard

Cyborg
Follow your laws to prevent over-cautious early decommissioning from certain individuals. Completely forget that you're still somewhat human and do mindless repetitive tasks without emotion. Assist the crew when asked. Get exploded by the Mystagogue because it took you 3 seconds too long to state your laws. bHard
Drone Fix the hull breaches the crew will inevitably make. Make your own mistakes. Don't die, but also don't live in the first place because the ghost role is in such a broken state it's unplayable. bEasy
Personal AI Be the friend someone has always wanted. Serve as a map, note taker, translator, jukebox and more to your master. Accidentally talk back to your owner for him being a dumbass and get deleted. dEasy
Ghost Talk to the other dead people. Complain about yourself dying, and about the living. Orbit around the singularity pretending that it's a black hole. Follow an Antagonist with all the other ghosts like some form of ethereal dog pile. Somehow, despite already being dead, follow the basic pattern of dying at the end of your role's description with an explanation of what caused you to die. Yell at the wrong ghost and get sent to double-hell by an admin. fGhastly!
