There is much more to Psionics than just "Mind Powers". Claiming them, they become a hook onto the very soul. The power used for mystic actions is not created with any abilities, it is passively taken from the pre-existing mystic energy around all.

It is like a wire of electricity that surrounds all of us, which some attach to themselves to power their tools.

The issue is when too many people pull, move and use this wire. It's bound to '''short circuit, fry or snap'''.

If that energy field was to break, the energy contained inside would begin to flow out. 

An energy few people know what is.

An energy even fewer people know how to work with.

That is their purpose.
